Hey Tom,

I believe JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) had an article about a dozen (?) years ago. This was in regards to organ transplant matching. As techniques improved & allowed for a larger variety of transplants & DNA test also improved, it was found that couples that assumed the father was the bio dad -- when in fact approximately 20% of the fathers wanting to donate their organs to their kids were not biologically related.

This is what the JAMA article was exploring. Should the attending physician inform the daddy that he is / was NOT the sperm donor? What ethics should the medical profession adopt? The whole truth & nothing but the truth (???) if the man asks the clinic for a reason for the non-match. Should doctors lie in order to keep the family unit intact? Besides the marriage (if they have one), what effects will it have on the offsprings & their psyche?

Yes, humorous for those of us on the outside -- but these were / are the real world consequences. Should the egg donor be spared a comeuppance? Or should justice be finally administered to the sinner & heck with the collateral damage? Many, many thorny question -- with no good answers, really.
