Zerohedge has a lot of crazy articles, but if you know how to discern the "doom" ones from the factual, they can be quite illuminating.

Refers to Tom's cited story, but adds that Student Debt is one of the major reasons why younger people can't take on new debt from owning a home. But owning is a big step, and like Tom says, more expensive than people first think.

I think it is stupid for people to move out of their parents if they cannot afford housing. I personally do think that paying rent is just throwing money away, because you are never owning the property, but I agree that it is far cheaper than owning a home. I do want to own a home eventually but it is not because it is cheaper, it is because I own it and that yes it will be cheaper in the long run that to perpetually pay rent IF the house doesn't have a lot of issues. However, I agree completely that it can be expensive to maintain it, and most people don't seem to get that. For now, I am living with my parents and don't care what other people say about it. I wish that more people do that, they will be saving tons of money.
