CHRISTMAS IN THE BRONX/JEAN SHEPHERD'S RADIO VERSION OF A CHRISTMAS STORY  Here it is: Tom's annual Christmas gift to all the P1s! In the first two hours, Tom tells about his lifelong relationship with the Christmas holiday. Then, Tom introduces you to his broadcasting idol growing up, Jean Shepherd, creator of the characters in the classic holiday film A Christmas Story.

You've probably seen A Christmas Story, but did you know that it began as a story told on the radio when Tom was a kid? Hear the story of Ralphie, his brother Randy, and the Red Ryder BB gun as it was originally told by one of America's all-time great storytellers...and Tom's biggest influence in his style of storytelling. An exact, unedited recording of the original aircheck from WOR/New York just as Tom heard it under the covers on the night of Christmas Eve! We recommend listening late at night, under your tree or under the covers, for the full effect.

NOTE: Super Premium subscribers will hear the original WOR commercials from the late 60s for the sake of authenticity on the Jean Shepherd segment. No paid commercials from The New Normal LLC can be heard here.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT CHRISTMAS Even though he's always been an atheist, when he was a kid, Tom loved Christmas so much. It took him years of reflection to figure out why he loved it, and why it's different for him now.

Tom, I honestly do not know where I would be without listening to your wisdom. Like you, I grew up dirt poor but with your teachings, have made the proper decisions to put me on the right path. I got snipped a few months ago so no kids and I'm not married! Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Thank You for all the encouragement this holiday season. You pushed me to reach out and enjoy the holidays instead of just keeping to myself. You always have the right words Tom.

Dear Tom,
I’ve never written to you before, however, I would be remiss if I didn’t take a few moments to express my sincere words of gratitude for what you’ve done, telling one great story after another. It helped me gain perspective instead of being angry about my situation, I resorted to a more mature state of mind.

In all of my years as a father, I have always managed to spend time with my two children on Christmas. This year posed a challenge for me to accomplish this. I’ve been divorced for over two years now. My daughter, who just turned 16, spent Christmas with her mom and with her moms boyfriends family in Arizona. My son, 23 years old, was scheduled to work, he’s a host at The Odyssey, a restaurant in Granada Hills, CA. I managed to eat lunch with him before his shift. As soon as I left the restaurant, I had to accept that I would not be seeing my daughter. It was very hard. Normally, I’d seek some advice from my father, however, he passed away nearly 6 years ago. Instead, I sought some comfort from my mom. I delivered my gifts to her and brother, however, due to her hoarding, her house doesn’t bring the comfort I was seeking. I just had to get out of there.

On my way to spend the rest of the evening alone, I played your ‘Christmas Show.’ Your storytelling is simply captivating. Your words of wisdom helped me to snap out of my sadness. It was you that reminded me that I am not alone in feeling the way I did and that it is attitude, the right attitude that makes a life a positive one, regardless of those elements which are, often times, beyond our control. Those stories of how things were for you growing up, wow, just wow. It’s absolutely incredible how you managed to overcome all that bullshit.

Tom, thank you, sincerely, I mean it from the bottom of my heart. You must know that I have learned from your words of wisdom and I am very thankful that you have this incredible platform for you to continue to share with your biggest fans, your extended familia. Dare I say, with your adopted ‘children’?
We truly love you Tom, because you truly have love for us all. Thanks again for sharing!

Merry Christmas Tom and Happy New Year!

P.S. I am committed to apply the principles of your Money Monday show messages so that next year, I’ll have Christmas with my son and daughter in Europe, Mexico or Hawaii anywhere their mother can’t keep them from me.

Some heavy stuff you talked about today Tom, especially the story about your parents and money. I guess it is true that life isn't fair and people create their own destiny. As always, you are a great inspiration for all of us and THANK YOU for sharing all of this today...

I do think that the Santa Deception which our whole society conspires in is responsible for there being so many atheists though. They teach kids to believe in something, and then later break it to them that everyone was in on the lie. And we are supposed to continue to believe in G d, after that deception?
